Description

Sizzling bang bang shrimp brings zesty coastal flavors straight to your kitchen with crispy, spicy perfection. Creamy, tangy sauce and crunchy breading create an irresistible seafood experience you won’t want to miss.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Protein:

  • 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined

Dry Coating Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (65g) cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Wet Ingredients and Sauce:

  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup (120 milliliters) mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup (60 milliliters) sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Craft a zesty, creamy sauce by whisking together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey in a mixing bowl. Taste and fine-tune the seasoning to your preference, then set the vibrant mixture aside.
  2. Thoroughly pat the shrimp dry using paper towels to ensure a crisp coating. Create a seasoned flour blend by combining flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. In a separate container, prepare beaten eggs for dipping.
  3. Meticulously coat each shrimp by first dredging in the seasoned flour mixture, then dunking into the beaten eggs, and finally returning to the flour mixture. Gently shake off any excess coating and arrange the prepared shrimp on a clean plate.
  4. Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet, heating to 350F (175C). Carefully lower the coated shrimp into the hot oil, frying in small batches. Cook for approximately 2-3 minutes per side until they transform into a golden, crispy delicacy. Extract the fried shrimp using a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  5. Transfer the crispy shrimp to a spacious mixing bowl. Drizzle the prepared Bang Bang sauce over the shrimp, gently tossing to ensure each piece is luxuriously coated with the spicy-sweet sauce.
  6. Artfully arrange the sauced shrimp on a serving platter. Sprinkle with freshly chopped green onions and a dusting of sesame seeds for a final touch of flavor and visual appeal. Serve immediately while the shrimp remain hot and crispy.

Notes

  • Choose fresh, high-quality shrimp for the best flavor and texture, preferably medium-sized with shells removed and deveined.
  • Ensure the shrimp are completely dry before coating to achieve a crispy, golden exterior that locks in moisture.
  • Control oil temperature carefully between 350-375°F to prevent burning and ensure even, crispy coating without greasy results.
  • Experiment with gluten-free flour or almond flour for a low-carb alternative that maintains the recipe’s signature crunch.
  • Adjust spice levels by modifying sriracha and chili sauce quantities to suit different heat preferences or dietary needs.
  • Bake instead of frying for a lighter version by placing coated shrimp on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cooking at 425°F for 10-12 minutes, turning once.
  • Prepare sauce ahead of time and refrigerate to allow flavors to meld, enhancing the overall taste of the dish.
